Date: 2023-11-22 05:08 pm (UTC)What books were chosen for you? Star Wars: The Original Trilogy: A Graphic Novel by Alessandro Ferrari, Heir to the Shadows by Anne Bishop, Heartstopper: Volume Four by Alice Oseman
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? Yes, I read Star Wars: The Original Trilogy: A Graphic Novel and Heartstopper: Volume Four
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? Star Wars book was a very, very abridged comic version of the original movies - all three movies were packed in a 200-page book... so when I say abridged, I mean it! It didn't give me anything new or exiting, and because it was so short it barely touched the surface. Heartstopper was, as usual, awesome. Always and forever one of my favourites.
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? Star Wars only for a starting point for someone who doesn't know that much about the franchise. Like, I could imagine giving it to my 12-year-old daughter. Heartstopper I will always recommend to everyone.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books?
The Stand by Stephen King - last month's choice I finished early this month, because it's such a massive book
Rouva C. by Minna Rytisalo - historical novel about Minna Canth, the first major Finnish-language playwright and prose writer after Aleksis Kivi, the national author of Finland, and the first Finnish-language newspaper woman
Rautalilja by Kaari Utrio - another historical novel

Date: 2023-11-26 05:01 pm (UTC)What books were chosen for you? L'Alchimiste des Ombres by Pierre Pevel, The Emperor's Tomb by Steve Berry and Under the Dragon's tail by Maureen Jennings.
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I only read L'Alchimiste des Ombres.
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? n/a
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? Yes, I totally recommend Pierre Pevel's novels, and this one is no exception. This is the second novel in the series Les Lames du Cardinal (The Cardinal Blades) which is set in the 17th century France and mix history with magic and dragons. I can't wait to read the final novel in the series because I know it'll be great, too. If you like the genre, I can only recommend reading Pierre Pevel's novels.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? Yes, I also read:
- L'Apothicaire by Henri Loevenbruck
- Agatha Christie, le chapitre disparu by Brigitte Kernel
- Le premier jour du reste de ma vie by Virginie Grimaldi
- Dernier été pour Lisa by Valentin Musso.

Date: 2023-12-01 08:29 pm (UTC)What books were chosen for you? -> Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
-> Ariadne by Jennifer Saint
-> Race to the sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones?I read "Ariadne" and it was amazing! Managed to finish it in one day because I could just not put it down. Greek legends written from the view of the female protagonists, what can go wrong? I have already borrowed "Elektra" by the same author from the library and am looking forward to reading it.
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite?n/a
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)?I absolutely would, yes. Even if you do not like mythology and/or history, give it a try, it's not dry or boring at all.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books?
I did, nine other books in fact.
-> Emil:ia by Peer Jongeling, an autobiographical graphic novel about a trans man who eventually decides to de-transition. I bought this at an author's reading I attended on Oct. 31st and it was brilliant. The author treated the very delicate topic of de-transition with exactly the amount of tactfulness it deserved, but also made it clear that the voices of those trans people who make said decision, deserve to be heard without judgement.
-> Unter Wasser by Till Raether (Approx. "Under Water". Psychological thriller about a young female influencer who gets kidnapped and murdered in a public swimming pool. I can recommend this too, if you can read German.)
-> Gun Love by Jennifer Clement (recommend)
-> This Mournable Body by Tsitsi Dangarembga
-> Nora Webster by Colm Tóibín
-> How To Fall In Love by Cecelia Ahern (recommend)
-> Fall Of Man In Wilmslow by David Lagercrantz (recommend)
-> Hush Little Darlings by Judith Kelman
-> Prime Evil by Judith Kelman

Date: 2023-12-02 07:49 am (UTC)What books were chosen for you? The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl, and The Once and Future Witches by Alex E Harrow
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I have started Special Topics and The Once and Future Witches, but I haven't finished either because I was traveling and stressing over traveling and then I got sick. Boo for the common cold.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? I finished reading Flour Babies by Anne Fine. I was feeling nostalgic and decided to re-read this middle grade book and was shocked to see how bittersweet the story actually is now that I've grown up.
