Who was your buddy this month? [personal profile] vickysg1
What books were chosen for you? Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Tithe by Holly Black, Fearless Females: The Fight for Freedom, Equality, and Sisterhood by Marta Breen
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I read Americanah and Fearless Females: The Fight for Freedom, Equality, and Sisterhood
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? Both were enjoyable in their own way, but my favourite was Fearless Females. It's basically the history of feminism and women's rights in a comic book form - very well written and drawn.
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? Yes, especially Fearless Females. I'm honestly considering giving to my 11-year-old daughter to read so we could discuss about it. She's quite mature for her age.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? I read The Dragon Reborn and The Shadow Rising both by Robert Jordan. As in, I'm slowly re-reading The Wheel of Time series, it's going to take me for a while...

What books were chosen for you? "Call us what we carry" by Amanda Gorman, "The Passage" by Justin Cronin and "Adult Assembly Required" by Abbi Waxman.
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I finished both Gorman and Waxman's books.
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? I am in awe of the wordsmith skills of Amanda Gorman and also enjoyed "Adult Assembly Required" immensely.
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? Yes to anyone who likes either poetry and romcoms.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? Sure, plenty.
"Anything You Can Imagine: Peter Jackson and the Making of Middle-earth" by Ian Nathan (bit bogged down, surprisingly)
"Something Wilder" by Christina Lauren (month's highlight)
"Starry-eyed Love" by Helena Hunting
"A Dark Lure" by Loreth Anne White (low of the month)
Started on "My Killer Vacation" by Tessa Bailey this morning and I'm hopeful to finish before the month is out.

I tried to read "The Passage" a couple years ago and gave up somewhere in the middle...it definitely wouldn't be a book one would finish within a month! Or at least I think so.

Both books have been on my list for a while, but I found that I need the right mindset to tackle certain genres...

What books were chosen for you? The Magicians by James . Gunn, Les Grands Discours de Femmes by Céline Delavaux and Under the Dragon's Tail by Maureen Jennings
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I read The Magicians and Les Grands Discours de Femmes.
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? Les Grands Discours de Femmes is definitely my favourite. In this book, the author talks about great women and one of their speeches, their influence on society from Elizabeth the First to Hillary Clinton, Simone Veil or Josephine Baker. It was really interesting. The Magicians, on the other hand, wasn't as good as it could have been. Maybe because it was less than 300 pages, but the story felt not detailed enough and we don't get to know the characters. I was a bit disappointed, still it was a good read.
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? I'd definitely recommend Les Grands Discours de Femmes, and I can only encourage you to read it if you can read French.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? I had a pretty good reading month:
- La Femme au Manteau Violet by Clarisse Sabard
- L'Alliance des Trois (Autre-Monde 1) by Maxime Chattam
- The Missing Sister (The Seven Sisters 7) by Lucinda Riley
- La Valse des Jours by Alizé Cornet
- Alabama 1963 by Ludovic Manchette and Christian Niemec
