Date: 2023-01-28 05:45 pm (UTC)What books were chosen for you?Choice 1: Our Missing Hearts - Celeste Ng (contemporary, female author)
Choice 2: The Lost Apothecary - Sarah Penner (historical fiction, female author)
Choice 3: Ninth House - Leigh Bardugo (fantasy, female author)
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones?Unfortunately, I only managed to read "The Lost Apothecary" because the other two were constantly unavailable in my library :(
I thought the book was okay though at some point it really started dragging on - I just didn't DNF because I was already quite far in. It also had some quite...questionable ideas of feminism.
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite?n/a
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)?I would if you're looking for a light read and don't think too deeply about what you are reading.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books?
I have!
-> "The Adventures Of Isabel" by Candas Jane Dorsey
-> "The Patient" by Jasper DeWitt (recommended)
-> "What If? Serious Scientific Answers To Absurd Hypothetical Questions" by Randall Munroe (recommended)
-> "Es kann nur eine geben" by Carolin Kebekus (non-fiction on feminism, written by a German female comedian. Recommended.)
-> "Behindert und stolz" by Luisa L'Audace (non-fiction on ableism and disability by a German activist I've been following on Instagram for a while. Very much recommended.)
Edit:
I also finished reading "Die letzten Männer des Westens: Antifeministen, rechte Männerbünde und die Krieger des Patriarchats" by Tobias Ginsburg today (Jan. 31st). It's another German non-fiction book on the intersection of right-wing politics/fascism and misogyny. Excellently written and informative, if of course infuriating and saddening at many points.

Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I only managed "The Light Pirate" before I found myself distracted by other releases.
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? n/a
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? Yes, it was quit a a haunting read, not only on a human level, but also frighteningly foretelling of a dire future in terms of inexorable climate changes.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? Sure did...
☛ "Mimik" by Sebastian Fitzek (recommended for the twist alone)
☛ "Spare" by Prince Harry (haunting, though to be taken with a grain of salt)
☛ "Highly suspicious and unfairly cute" by Talia Hibbert (too juvenescent for me)
☛ "The Man I never met" by Elle Cook
☛ "Shadow Sands" by Roberty Bryndza (recommended)
